The South Australian Italian Golf Club Inc. (SAIGC) was established in September 1989 by a few very keen and dedicated golfers with a view to promote and encourage the sport of golf amongst, in particular, the Italian community in South Australia. Membership of the SAIGC has grown very quickly and at present the club has over 200 members, both male and female, and a number who have lodged applications and are awaiting membership. Note that the SAIGC was the second registered ‘Italian’ golf club in the world outside of Italy. The first is the Victorian Italian Golf Association. NSW formed an Italian Golf Association in 1996, Queensland followed suit in 2003 and, since then, all four compete annually in what is known as the Festival City Challenge Cup.
The SAIGC is affiliated with the South Australian Golf Association which, therefore, allows each playing member of the SAIGC to have an official registered handicap which is recognised by all golf clubs in Australia.
